I’m a recently retired (17 months) Naval officer who served with Marines.

Don’t forget, Navy chaplains serve with Marines and SeaBees. You say you’re fit, can you do a five mile run? How about a 12 mile hump with 60 lbs on?

I admire your determination and willingness to serve. I hope you make it in.
    Feel free to e-mail me.

Discuss this with your officer recruiter. They do “bend” the medical standards when it comes to certain staff officers like Chaplain Corps and Medical Corps. I’ve known Chaplains who served and couldn’t meet the corrected vision standards. Even knew one priest in the Navy Chaplain Corps who wore hearing aids. That way you won’t have to lie and, in effect, you will be rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s

so you want to start off a military career by lying..which according to most religions is a sin.. yeah fine example to be setting there..

your doctor has NO CLUE as to the strains that yes even Chaplains are put under..and EVERYBODY regardless of paygrade or job must meet the SAME MEDICAL STANDARDS.

YOUR feelings have zero weight.. the military decides what is and isn’t acceptable, period.

I don’t want my spouse or stepson ministered by someone who thinks that being deceitful to the federal government is okay.

YOU should hide it. If you feel like you can make it through bootcamp with no asthma symptoms then you’ll be fine.

I’m letting you know from experience if you say anything about having asthma you will have no chance what so ever of getting in.

I know it’s bad to lie, but sometimes if it’s for a good cause then you gotta do it.

    Good Luck

Edit: please don’t listen to people like mrsjvb, people like her are inconsiderate because they’ve never been in the situation before.

I guarantee her husband or stepson has smoked pot before too..And how did they get into the military??
